about

This one is interesting. I wrote it back in 2005 and let it sit. I would play it once in a while at home but never thought much of it. Well, years went by and when I decided to go back to recording music, I pulled out Overturned. I was unsure if it was worthy of recording, but when I showed my producer, Phillip Bova, he said it had to be on the list.

I always heard Overturned as a duet but had never sung one before. I interviewed a few people who were all uniquely talented but didn't seem quite right. My drummer Mike, suggested one of his friends who had never sang or recorded professionally but had a great voice. So, I met up with his friend, Christine Desmarais and she nailed it. From here we recorded 4 duets in total. I'm excited to share the first.

lyrics

Blue skies, yellow summer sun
Pearly white clouds smiling down
I lay in the green grass, still wet with mornings dew
I close my eyes and I think of you
I close my eyes and dream of you

Disguise myself in the colors of the trees
And my tears fall like the leaves
Looking back on another place and time
Back when you were still mine

But like a rock I sit and wait to be overturned
And like a rock I sit and wait to be overturned

Time's passed but the heartache still lasts
Every day I wish that you never left
Sitting on this porch and I'm staring across these wheat filled fields
Dreaming that that car turned around
Praying that that car may still come around

But the dust erased everything between us
As I watched my whole life blow away
Another sunset sky paints a picture to remember you by
And the stars keep track of when I cry

But like a rock I sit and wait to be overturned
And like a rock I sit and wait to be overturned

I know that I should let you go
But you keep on tearing at my soul
Remembering everything we'd do
I just hope someday that these memories find their way back to you
